Our Approach to Grief Counselling
Our grief counsellors at Adventuring Loss believe in a holistic approach to therapy, addressing issues through a holistic lens which includes looking at how you are affected physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually by your experience(s).
All of our registered counsellors are trauma-informed and use evidence based methods and modalities alongside extensive specialized training and experiential learning.
Our online grief counselling team believe in a well-balanced approach to therapy so our counsellors have academic education, hands-on training, and lived experience that forges nuanced knowledge and insight during online therapy sessions.
Accreditation + Associations
All of our counsellors are registered with a regulatory body in British Columbia. Associations include Canadian Professional Counsellors Association (RPC), Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists of Canada (RTC), BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (RCC) and Psychology Today.
Issues Treated by Grief Counsellors
Grief rarely arrives alone. Our therapists work with the full constellation of what loss and trauma bring - including anxiety, depression, burnout, chronic stress, overwhelm, complicated grief, traumatic loss, suicidality, addiction, relationship conflict, spirituality, and life transitions.
Each counsellor at Adventuring Loss brings their own clinical style and area of specialization. We invite you to learn more about our team and book a complimentary 15-minute consultation to find the right fit for you.
The therapeutic relationship is unlike any other in your life. You don't have to manage how your pain lands on someone else, worry about being too much, or find the energy to give back. Your counsellor is here to hold space for exactly what you're carrying - and to walk alongside you, at your pace, for as long as you need.
“Finding words where words were absent before and, as a result, being able to share your deepest pain and deepest feelings with another human being. This is one of the most profound experiences we can have.”
— Bessel Van Der Kolk
Online Grief Counselling
Virtual therapy is a very useful resource that in recent years has been added to the psychological intervention services. Online therapy offers some benefits over traditional face-to-face treatment.
Some advantages of online grief counselling include:
-
You can see a virtual therapist from the comfort of home, without having to travel to an office, or pay for parking. Working with a therapist online can be a huge time saver. Just make sure you have access to a nice, quiet room that offers you privacy, a stable internet connection and you’re good to go!
-
Seeing your counsellor online can give you access to the comforts you find in your own space. Perhaps a pet, your own pillows or blankets. You can spend time in reflection immediately after your session with a journal or music if you choose, instead of hurrying back to a busy outside world.
-
You’re not limited to seeing therapists who live in the same city as you, which means you can choose from a wide range of licensed therapists with different areas of expertise including trauma, grief, loss, cross-cultural issues, addiction, or work life.
-
Our Vancouver counsellors are able to share their computer screen to offer up visuals, resources and educational tools. As well as, a text box for sharing links and other materials.
-
Mobility is often an underrated issue when it comes to accessing care for mental health. Online sessions make therapy far more accessible for people who are disabled or housebound.
