Grief Counselling

What is grief counselling?

Grief counselling provides a safe place for clients to talk about their loss while exploring and understanding complex and painful emotions. In grief counselling, you will learn tools and strategies that will help you take care of yourself while you are grieving and process the layered and unpredictable feelings associated with your loss.

Our society does not handle grief well. There is a misnomer that after a certain amount of time we ‘go back to normal’ - that is not always the case. Some losses change you and shift your perspective on life. Grievers are often pressured to look or be a certain way and return to a normal that no longer exists. Grief counselling gives you a judgment free space to feel your emotions without judgment.

How does grief counselling work?

There are different ways we work with our grieving clients during online grief counselling. There is no graph, timetable or schedule for managing grief and loss. Our grief counsellors work with our clients around accepting the reality of their loss, experiencing and processing the pain of grief, adjusting to their new normal and finding ways to remain connected to the person who has died.

There are many different types of grief to consider and working with a grief counsellor that can support you in identifying the type (or types) of grief you are experiencing can help you understand its impacts. We work with disenfranchised grief, anticipatory grief, complicated grief, maladaptive grief and more. Find the right fit by booking a complimentary call with our team and start online grief counselling.

Who is grief counselling for?

Grief counselling at Adventuring Loss supports anyone who is experiencing loss. If you have experienced the death of a loved one, pet loss, divorce, friendship breakup, the loss of a job, infertility, chronic health issues that limit your way of being in this world, becoming an empty nester, among other types of grief and loss.

The loss of a loved one, relationship and/or job can change you. Learning to live with it is often deeply painful and surprising. It takes time to navigate. Grief ebbs and flows like the waves of the ocean. Some waves are bigger than others. Talking about your grief is a life raft and online grief counselling provides that space to do so.

What can you expect after grief counselling sessions?

After your online grief counselling session, you may feel exhausted. Most people are not aware that processing deep emotions is a strenuous process. You might develop insights, discover new tools or be acknowledging how much impact your loss has had on you.

Treat yourself with compassion and allow yourself some time after your session to reflect, drink water and look after yourself.

Our online grief counsellors are here to support you. Book a complimentary call.
